  • Can not access a router remotely

    Hi

I did enabled a router management for Netgear FVS318 V3 and changed a port number from 80 to 62089 as explained in the link below

    http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1129

and I did enable a free dynamic dns account for the dynamic ip address say it is : forum.dnsalias.org

I did test by doing this :

    http://forum.dnsalias.org: 62089

    https://forum.dnsalias.org: 62089,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, letter s with http

http://122.56.78.90: 62089,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,this is not the real dynamic ip address

Reason I have used https as stated below

    http://tinypic.com/r/2wbrz1i/6

    Code:
    The error message :
    The connection has timed out
The server at x.x.x.x is taking too long to respond.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
What should I consider for the troubleshooting ?

    Thanks

Well as you've used a port outside the range specified by the Netgear article you linked to, then it was never guaranteed to work. Change it to a port number within the supported range.

This is good point I was not aware of it ,,,,I did change that to 29000 and I did a test from within LAN , it did not work.

Test from within the LAN should work as well,,,,,,,,Shouldn't it ?

      Thanks

Tests from within the LAN go to the usual port. The port you specify is external only.

I did a test from within the LAN by opening browser and typing : https://x.x.23.65 or http://x.x.23.65 ,,,,,it did not work.

And is that the device's LAN IP address? Verify that it hasn't been set back to the default of 192.168.0.1.

Is http management enabled on the device??

How are you currently managing it??

Re: Can not access a router remotely

You can't disable HTTP maangement - it's HTTP only. I suspect that the OP is trying to access the device via its WAN IP from the LAN, which you can't do. If on the other hand he is definately using the right IP address, then he needs to use the reset button on the back to restore the factory defaults, then try his configuration again after ensuring he has the latest firmware.

I've never used one of those devices so had no idea it couldn't be disabled.

Re: Can not access a router remotely

They're not really "business" class devices - they're really glorified consumer broadband routers for small businesses or home offices. And some of the worst pieces of junk I've ever had to work with

before I changed the port number from 62166 to 29000, I did my test from WAN.

Now when I changed the port to 29000 i have not got change to test that from WAN.

Is there a way to test that from LAN ?

                      Thanks

According to post 5, you've tried to access the device from within the LAN, so I'm somewhat confused...

According to post 5, you've tried to access the device from within the LAN, .
Yes you are right , because I have not got a chance to test it form WAN because I have been sitting next to the router all the day.
Now when I changed the port to 29000 i have not got change to test that from WAN.
And since I am sitting next to the router right now ,,,,is there away I can check remote management from within the LAN ?

                          Thanks

No, you can only do it remotey. If you can get onto the Internet from the office without going through that router, then you can test it. I imagine you probably have web access from your phone?

                              Hi gforceindustries

Today I have got a chance to test it from WAN and it worked as :

                              https://123.345.x.x:28050,,,,,,,,,,,port number between 1024 - 30000

Well as you've used a port outside the range specified by the Netgear article you linked to, then it was never guaranteed to work.
And also it worked as : https://123.345.x.x:62089,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,port number above 30000

http didn't work only https,,,,and this is what the Netgear advised as can be noticed in the snap shot below
