  • Installing Apps over a LAN ? -Is This Possible ?

    I have 2 P.C's networked in a LAN.

I suspect that the DVD drive is beginning to fail on one of the machines and am wondering whether it is possible to use the DVD drive on the other machine to install Applications as a temporary measure.

Would this be possible across a network ?

Sure you can do that. Just share out the DVD drive of the other machine in the network and you can either map the shared drive or browse for it.

I do this at work. Two of our servers do not have CD/DVD drives. I share the drive on my XP client, then put the disk in my drive then from the server: Start>Run and type MyXPClientname\DVD-Drive\Setup.exe

Sometimes better to copy the contents of the media to the local HDD and then run the installer
