  • Software to monitor LAN/WAN

    Hello all,

I run a 200 user network with 5 offices located in various parts of the world. We have WAN connections between offices and everything is centralised from the main office where I am.

I'm looking for a piece of software to monitor traffic and bandwidth over these connections and also connections made towards internet from a users PC. Free or open source if possible.

I like to have a good picture of what's going on on my network.

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

    Re: Software to monitor LAN/WAN

MRTG will do mainly routers and switches. it uses SNMP which may be security issues for some administrators.

Or you could try NAGIOS which can do mor than just rouers and switches - can monitor the states of services, and disk space. Windows servers need a special plugin.

or theres hobbit, devices report back using HTTP.

all of these have pretty graphical web pages. mrtg and nagios are linux designed, but can run on windows.
hobbit i'm not sure - i haven't looked at it much.

all 3 of them are open source.

    there's also RRDTool..
