  • Remote Connection Over the Internet

We have RRSA and VPN configured and running fine. Most of our domain users are accessing domain resources without a problem. Here is one specific situation:
Project manager who is trying to access domain resource remotely from a project site cannot connect through the VPN. He is using the project site’s wireless connection to connect to the Internet and he has a good connection to the Internet. He can browse and use his both public and company’s web email accounts, no problem. But when it comes to connect to our VPN over that wireless Internet connection the VPN fails and gives some error. During the troubleshooting process we found out that the problem is the Firewall configuration at the Project site. Is there any way the he can connect to the domain resources over the Internet without VPN?

What are the errors? and couldn't you address the problem in the project's office Firewall with whoever manages it?

I don't have control on the Remote Project's site. I was told that their wireless setup in a way that one should has to get static IP address to acccess the VPN, which the project manager doesn't want that.
so, I am thinking if there are ways that one can connect to the office domain resources over the internet without the VPN connection.

What exactly is the errors he's getting and what protocol are you using for the VPN? Do you actually mean a public Ip address instead of static? is he behind a NAT device?
If you don't manage the site some of this info you'd get if you speak to the site's It admin guys?

You could port forward Remote Desktop to a computer on the LAN and see if he can get to it that way. RDP might be blocked at the remote site. Alternatively, you could set up Remote Desktop Web Connection on a machine and expose that to the internet at large so he could access it via a web page. Furthermore, you could use something like logmein to connect him to your network or at least a few computers on your network.

In the future, if you wanted to keep stuff like this from happening you could look into using an SSL/TLS VPN.
