  • How does Cisco switch shares internet connection with multiple devices?

This question has been boggling my mind for a long time. My colleague connected 2 PCs and a Video Tele-Conference device on a Cisco Catalyst 2960 Switch, and all 3 devices were able to pull internet service. I thought that was a router's job and not a switch. Can anyone explain how that worked.

Assuming that the switch is connected to the router, then any device connected to the switch will have access to the internet through the router.

Assuming that you are using a ADSL gateway provided by ISP, in that case the gateway acts as a router. Moreover it also acts as DHCP gateway for your internal network.

I would suggest an upstream device somewhere....
