  • Networking Newbie looking for LAN Scanner

I am looking for a LAN SCANNER to scan my network. I do not what something that is overly complicated to use like solarwinds.

Something that will give me the following info

    IP address
    MAC Address
    Host name
    DNS name
And be able to scan multiple subnets

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks to all in advance.

SoftPerfect's Network Scanner is nice and simple. I likes it.

I've got Solarwinds Lan Surveyor express cos Microsoft were giving it away free in one of their newsletters. If you are running an active directory domain then the Active Directory Topology Diagrammer can do certainly most of what you want.

I used to use [email protected] a while back. They've got a new updated program called overlook fing, though currently it is without a GUI (it's coming soon though). I'm quite liking it atm, http://www.over-look.com

I don't think it covers DNS name though. Here's a demo report http://www.over-look.com/site/demo/network.html

Fing has a very odd T&C statement:

You may not use the software for multiple users or on a local area network without written consent from the Licensor.
                cheers

From my understanding that statement is ment to expand on
You may only use the software on a single computer that you own, lease or control. You may make one backup copy of the software for your own use to replace the primary copy in the event of hard-drive failure or other unavailability of the primary copy. The backup copy shall retain all copyright notices.
Meaning that you aren't going to use the software from a shared resource (for example a shared folder on a server)
