    Hi all,

I'm learning about the inner workings of VPN using OpenVPN since it's open source, and I realized that OpenVPN applies padding and compression on the plain packets.

I am curious to know if all VPN equipment, such as Cisco and CheckPoint apply this padding and compression effect on plain traffic too. Are there any other forms of traffic transformation beside these two?

    Thank you.

Yes VPN is based on the same protocols used by all vendors; SSL, PPTP, PPP, HA, ESP, L2TP.

So all VPN equipment applies padding and compression? Are there any differences in the way the padding and compression is done, i.e. different compression algorithms are used by different vendors?
