  • Resolved hostname contains wrong IP

as the title says, i have a problem with one of our units here.

if you ping it via hostname (ping pc1), it shows a different IP (192.168.1.10) from which it currently has (192.168.1.20)... but it pings successfully.

can anyone explain why this happens and what should i do so it would point to the correct IP?

    TIA

Looik in your DNS server for the incorrect A record.

      Or the local HOSTS. file
      1 1 was a racehorse.
      2 2 was 1 2.
      1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
      2 2 1 1 2

If it is the DNS server (most likely it is) then as a long term solution you'll need to look into setting up Aging and Scavanging in your DNS server.

          Excellent suggestion.

          Defo your DNS.

I've had this issue many of times, specially when you rebuild your machines and rename them as something else.

Let us know how you get on,

You could try a ipconfig /registerdns as well to make sure the new A (Host) record has been created in DNS. L4ndy is the way to go to start with.
