  • DNS Redirection

    Hi,

Sorry for the poor title, i really couldnt think of anything more descriptive! (overworked i'd say)

    Righteo, my set up..

    I've a server 08 box running the following;

    Hyper-v
    DC
    DHCP
    DNS
    Exchange

I have my external domains (www.domain.com) MX and A record pointing to my single static ip address. So i can get to OWA with www.domain.com/owa etc.

Now i'm thinking of installing CRM in a hyper-v. I'd like to be able to access this by going to something like crm.domain.com or www.domain.com/crm

I currently have a cheap netgear router that i'd prob need to replace. But is there a way to do this with only 1 IP address?

    Many thanks!

        Re: DNS Redirection

If it's not on the same machine then using the host header value isn't an option.

You could get by with one IP by installing your CRM site on a different port on your virtual machine and then have your 08 server have a site that forwards to your CRM site on it's port.

So on the 08 box you would forward http://crm.domain.com (or http://www.domain.com/crm) to http://crm.domain.com:81 (or whateverport you use) on the virtual machine. You will also need to forward traffic on the router from you public IP for port 81 to the internal IP of the virtual machine.

That's one workaround. The other would be to get more IP addresses then you can use standard ports.

Of if you install CRM on the 08 box then you can use the host header value.
        Regards,
