  • excel files running slow throw network connectin

    Hi.
    I have a net work with 4 pc's.
3 with win xp and one with vista.

All of them are connect with a wireless adapter to an edimax mimo router and have full reception.
all of them r running nod32 antivirus ver 3.
all the company excel files r located on a sherd folder with fc premmisions.

one xp computer can work smoothly on the excel files from the network. the other xp compuetr can open the excel files but they work very slow.
i disabled the xp firewall, disabled the antivirus, formated the computer and even reset the router to it's deafult definitions but stiil they opend very slow.
    any ideas?
    Thanx

Is it ONLY excel files or do other files open slowly as well?

If it is one particular type, the problem is almost certainly NOT in the firewall!

      some thin is very weird
all the excelandword files r capt on comp 1 but the employyes are working on the from comp 2 and 3.
on comp 2 it's fine but on 3 they get stuck and work very slow.
so we'v copied the to my documents on the local machin but still they work very slow and that's after i formated the p.c
could it be that the excel and word progarms are "sick" on that p.c
It's a new one with dual core and 512MB ram and it's just has been formated?
I don't know what to do any more...

I don't know NOD32 but on Symantec there is an option (enabled by default) that scans all files that cross the network. Slows things down no end. Does NOD32 have a Network Scan option? If it does, disable it.

If you're talking about the memory, then you're wrong. Applications also use memory and not CPU only...

IMHO 512 Mb RAM is from the dark ages now!
I always spec 1Gb for XP and 2Gb for Vista -- and thats a bare minimum.

Since it is dual core, it may be worth checking both processors are carrying a load and everything isnt just in the one core -- leave task manager running and watch whats happening with it.
