  • Can't see one server out of many over VPN?

I have two offices connected via VPN here's what I have:

    Office_QLD
    Network 192.168.1.0
    LinkSys RV082 8-port VPN Router IP 192.168.1.2
    Network WAN 218.214.115.145

Netcomm NB5Plus4 Modem (set to passthru mode)
    ----------------------Office_QLD----------------------

VPN Tunnel from LinkSys to DFL-1000

    ----------------------Office_OAK----------------------
    Cisco 1700 router

    Network WAN 202.76.169.58
    DLink DFL-1000 IP 192.64.10.212
    Network LAN 192.64.10.0
    Office_OAK

My problem is that I have 8 servers in Office_OAK, but 2 are NOT pingable from Office_QLD- the others are fine. DNS in Office_QLD is not working. The two servers are:

    * 192.64.10.10 - "JLRX01" Domain Controller, DNS, DHCP, Files, Printers
    * 192.64.10.16 - "MONTY" ISA Server Gateway for internet access

As you can see, two of the most important servers can't be reached and I can't figger out why!!??

I can ping the Office_QLD computers by DNS name OK from Office_OAK. All workstations in Office_QLD are on DHCP from the LinkSys firewall.

Note also that DNS is not working (provided by JLRX01) in the Office_QLD. There is no server in this office as normally the users RDP into the terminal server in Office_OAK, which is still working thank God.

Can someone help me to decipher what the problem is?

Heres the routing info and demo pings of one of the workstations in Office_QLD:

Have you checked the servers' IP configs? Make sure they have the proper gateway.
Could a firewall be blocking traffic to these servers or perhaps they've been configured to not respond to ping requests?
Can other computers on the 192.64.10.0 network communicate with those two servers?

Re: Can't see one server out of many over VPN?

I can't believe it! We had a Cisco engineer out here last week to install a new Cisco ASA 5510 Firewall and for some reason, unknown to me, he added a new IP address to our Domain Controller. Thus, IPConfig was showing the new address as the default IP and for some reason, the Office_QLD computers could not see the original IP address anymore.

I've removed the added IP address and it's all working fine again- thanks for the shove in the right direction.

FYI- only the computers in the Office_QLD could not see the two servers.
