  • Wireless problem on linksys WRV54G

    The following really strange issue:
I've bought the linksys WRV54G wireless broadband router, but i can't do anything with it.
I got an IP, but i can't ping the router. my signal is great (arround the 54 MB)
Encryption is currently disabled because of testing purposes.

When i'm wired, there is no issue at all and i can't do anything.

    I already upgraded the firmware.

    anyone who can help me?

      What does Netstumbler say?
Do you have any encryption enabled?
Do you have any firewalls turned on?
Hva you tried giving the wireless NIC a static IP (temporarily) to see if it will connect?
What is the wireless NIC in the business laptop?
      1 1 was a racehorse.
      2 2 was 1 2.
      1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
      2 2 1 1 2

        nope

Yes, that's the only difference, client firewall on the business notebook which i can't disable. Network policy, though it doesn't have problems on a different network.

Yes, but that's not really the problem, i get an IP adress, though i can't connect to anything. Also i can't ping the gateway, which is possible on a different network (so no firewall issue)

ehmmm the default thingie in a Dell D600

Is the firewall on the Linksys Wireless enabled or maybe ping has been disabled. Either would result in no gateway ping. Will look up the model tonight and see how it differs (settings wise) from mine. My apologies for not including a Netstumbler link.

What does the Status Tab in the AP's administration say (Page 63 of the manual)? Does it recognise that the Ding Dong (Dell) is connecting? You just did a standard setup of the Linksys, no VPNs etc?

Did you use the Wizard to set it up or do it the manual way? I have had trouble with the wizard if you have a non standard IP range. The wizard likes a 24!!

well the strange part is that i already got 2 computers running wireless.
            They can ping...
so you could think its the notebook where icmp is disabled. But then when i'm with my parents who has the WRT54GC, there are any problems and i can ping..

            stupid wireless

Had one that was a bit different last week. It wouldn't get any signal until I created a totally new profile. I initially used the default profile and modified it. I agree, it can be frustrating. Must be time to have a look at Wireless Networks by Train Signal!!
