WHen you download a file (large), what speed does it download at? 10k/sec, 15k/sec, 20k/sec, 25k/sec, 30k/sec, 35k/sec etc Try downloading something from Microsoft as I get full speed from them on any connection I have used.
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

with a 256k connection, you would usually max out at approx 25kb/sec, but when taking into account packet overheads, and PPP overheads, you will get between 15 - 20kb/sec at the very most.

Sounds like your pretty close to maxing your ADSL line, and no matter how fast your wireless section goes, your bottle-neck will be the ADSL connection.

You might want to try and run the tweak test at broadbandreports.com then run a speed test to create a baseline. Use Dr TCP to optimize your settings based on the tweak test results then run the speed test again to see if it produced any actual benefit.
