  • speed up 28.8 Kbps dial-up connection

what a fantastic gem of a site this is..
i have a question: i am on a 28.8Kbps dial-up connection (yup, ouch) and know, but don't know where, that there is some registry tweak out there to speed up ones dial-up a bit. i am on a concentrator just to give you a bit of a better idea.
i did enable the QoS and am not sure if i see an improvement.
if someone could point me in the right direction as to my dial-up conundrum i would very much enjoy that..btw: dsl NOT an option
i am very comfortable working inside the registry, it is my favorite place to be.
    my os: windows xp pro/sp2

greetings from bitter, bitter cold Alaska

how good is the line? if there is a low SNR you will never be able to speed up anything. i lived on a beach and used a dial up years ago, but the line quality wasnt the best so downloads were always crappy.

QoS (imo) robs you of bandwidth. im not the most knowledgable, but the way it sounds to me is m$ hi-jacks 20% of your bandwidth so if it needs it for something "important" it has a little sliver of a pipe... screw that.

if you like regwork, you can chop up the file caching on folder browsing...

    other than that i dunno...
