  • Alcatel SpeedTouch Home with 3Com wireless router

    Hello!
I have Alcatel SpeedTouch Home modem (upgradet to Pro) acting as modem/router/dhcp and regular hub/switch. Recently I bought 3Com OfficeConnect wireless router and I am facing a problem with IP addressing. I tryed to configure
3Com to act as switch/hub for my wired and wireless clients. I disabled DHCP in 3Com and after that computers get 169.x.x.x IP addresses. If I entered IP address from 10.0.0.x range, and DHCP still disabled, computers are not connecting to Internet.
If I restored default IP in 3Com (192.168.x.x) and enabled DHCP in 3Com, my wired and wireless computers get IP from 192.168.x.x range and I sucsesfully surf the Inet. So my question is: How I remain in 10.0.0.x range and configure 3Com to act as switch/hub only for wired and wireless clients?
    Thanks in andvance.

Re: Alcatel SpeedTouch Home with 3Com wireless router

    I found the way.
    1. - I disabled the DHCP server in 3Com
    2. - Changed IP address to one from my network range (for the future access to the 3Com from my network)
    3. - Connected cable from the modem to one of LAN ports (not to WLAN). Connected remain computers to LAN ports.

My computers get IP addresses from Alcatel's DHCP, and I remain in 10.0.0.x range.

I tryed to use regular and cross cables from Alcatel to 3Com, both works fine.

The remaining thing is to check how to connect my old hub, if I want more wired computers in my network.

    I will post the results.

Thanks for posting back with the solution. We appreciate that.

To connect more wired systems in, try connecting the Alcatel and the 3Com to the old hub. Other PCs can be connected to the old hub and everything should work.

Re: Alcatel SpeedTouch Home with 3Com wireless router

My 3Com have 4 LAN ports, and all of them were used.
1 is to connect to the modem and 3 of remaining are connecting to the computers. So I pull out one of them, not the one that connects to the modem, and connect with regular cable to UPLINK port in my old hub. The computer I connect to the hub, also with regular cable, everything works fine. So now I can to connect more 7 wired computers or 7 more hubs and so on and so on.

        Thanks for listened my story

P.S. I am looking for good info about subnets, subnets mask, how to calculate it,
how to combine to networks like 10.10.10.x with 20.20.20.x, with good explanation.

                  Hey all,

I wonder if we could make the link to the 3Com resource a sticky? Any idea what we would need to do?

                  regards,

Easy, bribe Forum Mods with sufficient cash and magic can happen.

Wait a couple of days while I try & formulate something and discuss it offline with the others.
