  • File share access over VPN

We have an ASA 5510 to allow our users VPN access. A long-standing IT policy forces users to then RDP to their desktop to gain access to file shares. Are there security advantages to doing this instead of simply allowing direct access to the shares once a VPN connection is made? An ACL could restrict access for the necessary ports to only the file server.

I suppose for "most" users it prevents them from removing the files from the environment onto their own local computer...

Sure, some would be able to use drive-redirection.. but most people probably wouldn't know how

    at least, that's my guess
