  • Upgrade ASA 5510 from 7.2 to 8.4

    Hi all!

I've got to upgrade an ASA 5510 from version 7.2 to 8.4. I read a lot about the different NAT approach in the new version, but I still don't understand what this really means.

After the upgrade, do I have to re-create al the NAT rules again? Or will the ASA still work as before? What can I expect?

I have to do the upgrade for one of my customers, so when I get there next monday I want to know what to expect. The firewall has to work when im done upgrading.

The nat configuration should follow over correctly during the upgrade but I have heard of alot of bugs with 8.4 when doing upgrades so you may see unexpected results. I would make a backup copy of the config first thing just so you have some kind of reference to work off if everything doesn't get converted correctly. Most of the nat in 8.3 and 8.4 uses object-groups. There is good documentation on cisco's site that you could look at.
