  • VLAN tagging on router physical interface

    Dear All,

    I configured two c2911 (R1 & R2) routers as follows

    gi0/0 on R1 gi0/0 on R2 in HSRP group 1

    gi0/1 on R1 gi0/1 on R2 in HSRP group 2

    gi0/2 on R1 gi0/2 on R2 in HSRP group 3

and connected all links to single SG-300-28 Small Business Switch and I created three vlans 2,3,4. but how to tag these vlan on routed ports in router.

please suggest what should i do.

Re: VLAN tagging on router physical interface

Create a subinterface and specify "dot1q" encapsulation and a VLAN number:
    Code:
    interface gi0/0.20
     encapsulation dot1q 20
     ip address <etc>
In this example, packets from GigabitEthernet0/0.20 will exit GigabitEthernet0/0 with an 802.1q VLAN tag identifying it as belonging to VLAN 20.

The subinterface number doesn't have to match the VLAN number.
