  • Cisco 3512XL Password required but not set

When I connect to my switch via Hyperterminal, I get the error:

    Password required, but none set

    And then nothing happens

    What is wrong?

I suspect (and this is a guess)
that somewhere in your config, you've got a password requirement for that TTY
    but no password set.

try telnetting or ssh'ing to the router instead

Are you trying to access via the console port or the vty lines?

VTY lines won't allow a connection unless there's a password set for them. Add a password to your config thru the console port, then Hyperterminal should make a connection through the VTY ports, across the network.

Cheers for that, I managed to get in via the console port.
I've cleared my config and will start from scratch

          Thanks for all the responses
