  • What does the "6" in GigabitEthernet1/0/1 6 down stand for?

I am seeing numerous alerts in our network monitoring tool (NetCool) of the following nature:

    Summary : Link Down 10101 GigabitEthernet1/0/1 6 down

After a short period, these alerts are cleared and the following alerts show up:

    Summary : Link Up 10101 GigabitEthernet1/0/1 6 up

Can someone please help me understand what the "6" means in the GigabitEthernet1/0/1 6 ?

    Thank you in advance!

I thought it might be the logging level. On cisco devices "Level 6" is Informational but it may be something specific to your monitoring software.
