  • IP SLA - ping two hosts?

    Hi all,

Could somebody sanity-check this please? Basically, I want to reload the router if pings to TWO external servers fail. I've just picked public-knowledge addresses.

If either pinged host fails then it could be a problem with them; if both fail then it's probably a problem with us and hence the reload.

    Code:
    ip sla 10
    icmp-echo 8.8.8.8 source-interface Vlan1
    frequency 10
    threshold 3000
    timeout 3000

    ip sla 20
    icmp-echo 4.2.2.1 source-interface Vlan1
    frequency 10
    threshold 3000
    timeout 3000

ip sla schedule 10 life forever start-time after 00:10:00
ip sla schedule 20 life forever start-time after 00:10:00

! Single tracking entry for SLA 10
track 10 ip sla 10 reachability
    delay down 180 up 10

! Single tracking entry ALSO for SLA 10, e.g. ping both. Will this work???
track 20 ip sla 10 reachability
    delay down 180 up 10

    event manager applet ema-ADSL-Down
    event track 10 state down
action 10 syslog msg "********** WARNING! ADSL Line Down! **********"
    action 20 reload

    event manager applet ema-ADSL-Up
    event track 10 state up
action 10 syslog msg "********** ADSL Line UP **********"

    Many thanks,

    Jim

Re: IP SLA - ping two hosts?

This goes on the basis that a ping-failure to BOTH remote sites suggests that our ADSL line is down, but a ping-success to EITHER remote sites suggests that our connection is okay.

        Code:
        no ip sla 10
        no ip sla 20
no track 10 ip sla 10 reachability
no track 10 ip sla 20 reachability
        no event manager applet ema-ADSL-Down
        no event manager applet ema-ADSL-Up

        ip sla 10
        icmp-echo 8.8.8.8 source-interface Vlan1
        frequency 10
        threshold 3000
        timeout 3000

        ip sla 20
        icmp-echo 208.67.222.222 source-interface Vlan1
        frequency 10
        threshold 3000
        timeout 3000

ip sla schedule 10 life forever start-time after 00:10:00
ip sla schedule 20 life forever start-time after 00:10:00

track 10 ip sla 10 reachability
         delay down 60 up 10

track 20 ip sla 20 reachability
         delay down 60 up 10

        event manager applet ema-ADSL-Down
event tag PingDown1 track 10 state down
event tag PingDown2 track 20 state down
         trigger
correlate event PingDown1 and event PingDown2
action 10 syslog msg "********** WARNING! ADSL Line Down! **********"
         action 20 reload

        event manager applet ema-ADSL-Up
event tag PingUp1 track 10 state up
event tag PingUp2 track 20 state up
         trigger
correlate event PingUp1 or event PingUp2
action 10 syslog msg "********** ADSL Line UP **********"
