  • 877 - can't connect into it via PPTP when using secret password

    Hello,

I have an 877 which is configured as a PPTP VPN endpoint. I'm using local usernames.

    If my config has

    username xyz password 7 <LowSecurityhash>

then I can connect to it quite happily and reliable. However If I switch to the more secure "secret" stuff and have:

    username xyz secret 5 <HighSecurityhash>

I'm unable to connect via PPTP.

Can anyone confirm why please? Is it because CHAP requires access to plaintext passwords and PPTP uses CHAP? Or am I simply doing something wrong.

    Many thanks,

    Jim

Yes, you cannot use MD5 encryption because you need CHAP for authentication of the ppp connection.

Many thanks, I suspected that might be the case.

      Much appreciated.
