i'm having a weird problem on my router
the interface is down ,down but i see input packets increasing and traffic is passing via this interface.
i added output from the router :
    PT_Access-A_A6#sh int s0/2/2
Serial0/2/2 is down, line protocol is down
    Hardware is HWIC-Serial
    Description: GLX1120 CDM600
Interface is unnumbered. Using address of FastEthernet0/0 (
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 2048 Kbit, DLY 20000 usec,
    reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 235/255
    Encapsulation HDLC, loopback not set
    Keepalive not set

if any one encountered this issue and has some inputs i will appreciate it.
    thanks in advance

    Re: show interface problem

The interface is not passing traffic as evidenced by the fact that there are no packets being output. The fact that there are input packets makes sense to me as traffic is still "hitting" the interface from the internal and external networks, but the interface is not passing the traffic as it's in a down/down state.

Is your question related to getting the interface up/up or understanding why there are input packets?

    Also, have a look here:

      Re: show interface problem

      hi ,
      thanks for the response.
this interface is not supposed to transmit packets the packets are transmitted via a fastethernet interface as you can see on the output:
"Interface is unnumbered. Using address of FastEthernet0/0 ("
this interface is used only to receive packets from the demodulator connected to it.
actually the interface is working well. it's just showing down, down for a strange reason.
i think it's a bug but i want to know if anyone encountered this before.
i already tried shut/no shut but it's the same.

        Re: show interface problem

One of us is misunderstanding things here. My understanding of the use of unnumbered does not mean that the interface does not pass traffic, it means that the interface uses the ip address of the FE interface in your configuration. Is the FE interface up/up?

          Re: show interface problem

          let me be more clear.
on our network we are using this and other routers just to receive data from receivers. all serial interfaces are used for the receiving data and all are unnumbered and using the fast ethernet interface to transmit the data to our our switch and so on and so on.
the serial interface i'm reffering is actually working well and our customer connected on it can pass traffic. the only problem is that it's showing down, down when typing sh int...
i hope this is clarifying the issue.
