  • cisco 2621 change IP while active

I have a cisco 2621 at a remote site - I want to change the active IP address
    FE0/1 10.160.216.18 255.255.255.252 to 10.160.216.26 255.255.255.242

I must use the original address to reach the switch - can this be done

Correction second mask should be 248 - trying to increase address space from 2 to 6. Site is remote - different island. Access is via two additional routers - ending up 216.18 which I hope will beome 216.26. Travel is restricted - so WAN is my best hope.

Sure it can be done, but you would lose connectivity. If something goes awry, there's no telling how long you'd be down.

Best bet is to go to the site and console into the router then test.

That second netmask isnt correct. Bits are added up from left to right across all 4 octets. You cannot have a value of .242. It can only be .240 or .248. Either way the first network is small (only 2 address's) and would fall out of the scope of the other one. So no that wont work.
