  • Catalyst 3560 'hub' possible?

I'm in the process of deploying a HA Checkpoint firewall setup. To achieve this our consultants are telling us we need a hub for the ISP link and 2 external nics of the FWs to connect to. Only a hub can do this due to it's broadcast nature etc...

Well that doesn't make much sense to me considering hubs are impossible to purchase and I don't want my HA FWs to rely on a 10yr old OfficeConnect hub.

I have a thread going on the Checkpoint forums here: https://forums.checkpoint.com/forums...=8647&tstart=0

Promising info there, but I'm not sure how to achieve this with my Catalyst 3560. Any tips?

You can still find new hubs available for purchase.

You could use your 3560 by performing a port span or port mirror. This basically sends a duplicate copy of the traffic ports that are in the mirror configuration.

Basically if you setup Port 2 to mirror Port 1, Port 2 will see ALL of the traffic Port 1 sees.

Are you sure the Checkpoint firewall is going to work if you configure the switch for port mirroring? I would recommend contacting Checkpoint to verify that it will work and that they will support this configuration.

Also, as related in my previous post, network hubs are still available on the market at reasonable prices.
