  • multiple gateway on the network

    Dear all,

i have problem of multiple gateway with VPN, please refer to the attached pics:
PC B cannot ping PC A if PC A's gateway is not pointing to the VPN Router

if i change the PC A default gateway to 192.168.1.2 ( VPN router) , then PC B can ping it. but the fact is we have to keep the default gateway stick to 192.168.1.1 . is the any way to make it happen ?

    Thx

Re: multiple gateway on the network

Put a route into 192.168.1.1 that points traffic destined for the 192.168.2.x subnet to the 192.168.1.2 router. Pings are reaching PC A but when PC A tries to respond, it sees that it's responses need to be on a different subnet so it hands the ICMP responses to its default gateway, which in this case is 192.168.1.1. Apparently 192.168.1.1 does not have routing info for the 192.168.2.x subnet and does not know to hand traffic bound for that subnet to the 192.168.1.2 VPN router.

Re: multiple gateway on the network

If in LAN from where PC_A belongs are more computers, is not scalable to modify all the routing tables of all PCs in that network and you may use the following schema :
All the PCs from PC_A LAN pointing to default gateway : 192.168.1.1 and in this router create a static route, something like this :
      Code:
      route 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.2

it works like a charm !

btw, is there anyway NAT the VPN on bothside to bypass the routing ?

we are not able to change the routing , it is provided by the ISP

Can you explain what your goal is a little better? I'm not sure what "NAT the VPN on bothside to bypass the routing" means exactly. Pictures help too.
