  • SSH version 2 on Cisco 2621XM

Hi, I'm currently preparing for my CCENT certification, and in doing one of the labs I need to enable SSH version 2. When I went to issue the "ip ssh version 2" command it wasn't available. My first thought is that this has to do with the IOS version I was running. Since I do have a CCO account with Cisco I've tried a couple of different IOS versions without luck. I believe that I'm currently running c2600-a3jk9s-mz.123-11.YZ2.bin. My question is this. Is there an IOS version available for the Cisco 2621XM router that will support SSH version 2?

I'm not a Cisco guy, so I have no idea if this will work or not, but have you tried issuing the command "ip ssh2"? SSH version 2 is more commonly referred to as SSH2.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did type "ip ssh ?" to see which commands were availible, so I'm pretty sure of the command that I typed being the one that I needed!

It appears that I wasn't specifying the RSA key pair (IE skipping a step)! I'll give this a try when I get home from work (to my lab)! Ha ha. Thanks for the knowledge!

No problem and let us know how it went.

Recently I bought the same router to building my own lab.
However most of the time I will use GNS 3 but I need some switches with Inter-vlan routing.
Layer 3 switch is quite expensive so

              Hey friend

You must download the IOS advance enterprice K9 v 12.4.

This IOS support the ss version 2, the IOS need 29 MB in Flash and 256 MB in RAM.

Warning, If you have 32 MB in RAM and have SDM installed on the router, you must unistall or erase SDM, if you have more memory in flash you dont have problems

              The commands are

username rmontes priviledge 15 password cisco
              ip domain-name cisco.com
              crypto key generate rsa
**the default is 512 key, you must choise 1024 key
              ssh version 2
              line vty 0 4
              transport input telnet ssh
              login local
              end
              show ip ssh

I hope you can configure the ssh version 2
