  • Cisco 1841's IP SLA monitor for fail over?

I have 2 locations, each location has a T1 and a cable modem I have an 1841 at each location and a ASA5510 at the primary and a Pix at the secondary.

We hired a third party to set up our routers so that we will have a site to site vpn on the cable modems that will fail over to a secondary site to site vpn on the T1 connections.

From what I understand the magic of this whole deal is supposed to be the IP SLA monitor.

    ip sla monitor 1
     type echo protocol ipIcmpEcho source-ipaddr
     timeout 500
     frequency 3
ip sla monitor schedule 1 life forever start-time now
    track 1 rtr 1 reachability
Which is all fun and games but where does it actually say use this connection first, then if that one fails use this second one until the first one is repaired. I just don't see how what sets priority for traffic flow.

This whole setup has not worked correctly right out of the gate. After the third party spent a bunch of time with cisco trying to fix it we took the project back in house and now I am working with cisco.

My primary complaint is that the remote location users get kicked off of remote desktop up to 10 times in a 12hr work day.
