  • Subnet and VLAN Questions

    Hi guys,

I have created VLANs on our Cisco switches, but was wondering if additional subnets needed to be created on our DHCP server to serve the clients?

For example, our DHCP server currently has 1 scope, ie. 192.168.0.0 /16, but I have created 5 vlans (10-50). I would like VLAN 10 to be the management vlan, and have hosts get ip address from the 192.168.1.0 range. For 20, it should get ip from the 192.168.2.0, and so on.

Since the mask is 255.255.0.0, or /16, should I go about recreating the scopes and have a mask of /24 and have the range start from 192.168.x.1. to 192.168.x.254? This would mean I will have 5 subnets on the DHCP server. Is the gateway for each of those subnet going to be the VLAN ip address (i'm assuming it is)?

Also, do I need to assign an IP address to each vlan interface and configure ip address-helper option?
