  • 2950 switch passwords reset, asks for username after reboot

I'm the IT staff in a medium business with corporate network support. I found an old 2950 switch I can connect to via hyperterminal on the pc, but after following directions to reset passwords and power cycle, I get a username prompt. I've tried everything I know and corporate says keep trying and experiment. I'm just trying to teach myself not working on a stolen unit. Help please.

Just wondering if this was ever resolved?
I am a new administrator and of course no documentation was left regarding usernames and passwords. I faced with the exact same issue where i dont know the username or password to a 2900 series switch. if i do the password reset, i will still not know the username???

    any help is appreciated.

i followed the link below this thread. if you follow the instructions to reset the password, then use the command "erase nvram" should clear everything back to factory and you'll need to config interfaces, etc.

ps the link is "Cisco switch 2950" by masterofallchief
