    hello

    i just now starting my ccna, i have some doubts, are the cisco router ios commands and managed cisco layer2 switch commands same ? are the ios commands depending upon companies like notel, cisco.

    IOS is a Cisco thing - the commands are the same across antyhing running Cisco IOS, but of course new things get added in newer versions. Some Cisco switches run Cisco CatOS which is a totally different syntax.

    Syntax on a Nortel for example may be similiar but not identical...

      Well the commands differs on the router model, type and features.

      The first basic about a Layer2 manageable switch is that it cant route (i.e., it can perform the role of a basic router), however the Layer3 switch can make perform basic routing like RIP and RIP2. This is RIP(Routing Information Protocol) and not R.I.P (Rest In Peace). OK.
