    g'day there,
    #enable secret todd
this line of code help you to configure encrypt password. That password is for when you enter from user mode to privilage mode.
(router)> ---- from here to you would type
    (router)> enable
then it would prompt for password and you will supply the secret password which is todd in your example.

    #line con 0
    # login
    #password console

These lines are for setting console password on cisco router/switch. When you connect your pc with console port of your router. You need to supply this password to enter for further configuration. the word console is password in your example, though u can nominate any password.

    #line vty 0 15
    #login
    #password telnet

These lines are for setting telnet password. When you telnet your router / switch. the router/switch would ask you for password. This password you will supply there.

    cheers and enjoy further reading

      Hi ahmer_sahab,
Very nicely explained. I got it now.
so it means through any medium if we want to have access to Switch/Router, we need to password-protect that medium, either this medium is Console port or Auxiliary port or Telnet port right?

Am I on right track on this?

      Thanks,

For security reasons it is recomended that you need to have password for all medium you will use to connect to your router/switch. But it is not essential. Though you can connect console port with computer without putting console password.
But for telnet session, it is important to set password on your router. You can not telnet any device with your router/switch if you do not have telnet password set on your switch/router. For telnet, it is mandatory that you must have telnet password set on machine you are telnetting as well as on the machine you are using for telnet.
The console and enable password are not essential if you are using console port. But for security you must secure your console ports.
