    Hi all,

I am in the process of placing my company's servers at a professional datacenter, where we have rented som rackspace.

In that matter I am a little in doubt how to build the network.

We plan also to host some of our customers servers as well.

The components that we have available to build this network are:

    Catalyst 3560G
    Cisco 1811 Router

Of course we do not want to use all of them, but these are what we have available at hand.

I was thinking of using the ASA5505 as a frontend firewall and then put the 3560G behind, but I do not know the best way to configure the 3560G. It can be setup as a layer 2 or layer 3 device and I was also thinking of using private vlans to seperate the customers on the switch.

I have a bunch of public IP adresses for this project.

Can anybody advice the best scaleable and performing solution for this?

Your design is sound. You'll probably not need to use any of the layer 3 functionality of the 3560 here. If you need to speak BGP to your upstream put the 1811 in place between the ASA and your upstream and just get a default route from them.
