  • Usage Reporting for Cisco VPN

Is there any software out there that will show the number of logons per username for a Cisco router with VPN IOS.

    I want to show:

    number of connections per username
    amount of time per username
number of failed connections per username

    Cheers,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

Are you using RADIUS or TACACS? If so, I think you would have a number of reporting options.

For example, here is an app that does RADIUS reporting based on AAA logs-

      Hi David,

Unfortunately at this stage its just username / password in the IOS.

Looks like i might have to intergrate it into a RADIUS server.

      Cheers,
      Matt

        Hi Matt,

        Okay, here is another idea...

You should be able to configure syslog on the router to go to a server running a syslog daemon (like the Kiwi syslog daemon found at http://www.kiwisyslog.com/syslog-info.php). The Kiwi tool can do -some- reporting. There are also some other tools availale at their index of products-

I haven't tried to get the exact info you are trying to get. If you can't get that, you may be able to get something similar. I am almost sure you can, at least, get time of login, time of log off, and failed login attempts.

        All the best,

You want to do aaa accounting. This is quite simply how it's done...Windows Radius can take care of everything for you if that's your platform of choice. There are several flavors for Linux too.
