  • changing metric in RIP

    Hi all,
    I want to change metric value of certain networks. I have two routers directly connected via serial ports. One routerA is hoting 172.16.0.0 and 10.0.0.0 network and another routerB is hosting 192.168.0.0 and 172.18.0.0. I want to change metric value of network 172.16.0.0 from 1 to 3 on routerB. Any one know how to do that, plz let me know.
    Regards

    Re: changing metric in RIP

    Hello Ahmer;

    any chance you could post your configs and a 'sh ip route' from each device?

    If the routers are only one hop from each other then no, I don't think you can do this. RIP's only metric value is hop count, and as the routers are only one hop from each other then the metric will be calculated as 1.

    And also: what are you trying to achieve from this? Is it a lab environment with a goal you need to reach? If you give us some more info then we can probably help further.

      Hi Ahmer_sahab,

      Yes, absolutely, this can easily be done with policy routing. Here is a link:

      http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/...800a4409.shtml

      It would look something like:

      1. define an ACL to specify the traffic
      2. use route-map {modmetric}
      match acl
      set metric x

      Thanks,
      David

          Ahmer_sahab,
          I forgot to say that you need to apply the route-map to the interface (step 3) with:
          Router(config-if)#ip policy route-map test

          theterranaut - I appreciate your posts, you are a smart guy so don't worry about it.

          Thanks,
          David

            Thanks David! Praise indeed. Glad to be able to help on occasion, and, fwiw, I learn a lot from your posts.
