  • having problems with RD on Windows 2000 Server

    Hi Gurus.
I have configured RDP on Windows 2000 Server and it was ( reportedly ) working.
After a while Server stopped to receive RDP connection. What troubleshooting steps can be done here?

    Any ideas/thought?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Reboot the server - If this reslove the issue then setup "Terminal Services
    Configuration" to close old sessions.

    2. If step 1 didnt helped, please review event log etc. and try to disable any
third party product on the server and try again.

Ideally you shouldn't ever have to troubleshoot a production terminal server. What I always recommend is to create a system image (using Ghost, or any imaging utility) after testing, when you know you have a stable, locked down system working just as you designed. Should something go wrong, due to failed software installation, MSFT Update, or unknown strange behavior, you don't have to troubleshoot for hours. If after 15 minutes of standard troubleshooting you can't determine the cause, simply re-apply your image and all is good.

For this to work, you MUST not store data on the terminal server and profiles should be roaming, flex, hybrid or mandatory and stored on a file server. The TSLS should also be running on another machine.

If you can, have a test lab to tryout new software, even if it's on a Virtual Server, so you're never treating your production server like a lab rat.

With these simple strategies you should never have to worry about such problems.
