  • Anti-Virus software for Terminal Services

    Hello everyone.

I run a Terminal Services environment with usually about 40 concurrent users at a shot. I currently use Symantec Anti-Virus 10. Under the processes tab in explorer, I see one instance of ccapp.exe (which is in the RUN registry key) for each user. I would assume there is no reason for it to be running a separate instance for each user, rather one service should be able to control the anti-virus. That led me to believe that SAV 10 was not optimized for Terminal Services, but I've read on other forums that it is.

Does anyone have any suggestions you can give me on which AV to use. I am building a new TS server and I want to use the best.

As a side point, it might make a difference to know that I'm not that scared at all about a virus hitting my system, since users can't access the internet at all from the TS machine, and they don't even get incoming e-mail. But I still need something.

    Thank you.

    You can try to use:

Any antivirus version is more useful from Symantec today

Here are several TS compatible AV Software Programs:

      http://www.sessioncomputing.com/anti-virus.htm

This document on symantec.com states that the TS must be in remote administration mode to install SAVCE, meaning it should be installed before installing terminal server (not always an option)

What affect does removing ccapp.exe from the RUN key have?

Patrick, was this the Symantec document?
          1 1 was a racehorse.
          2 2 was 1 2.
          1 1 1 1 race 1 day,

The thing is I'm looking to install Symantec Corporate 10.0, not Symantec System Manager like this doc says. I'm installing it in client, unmanaged mode. Any comments on if that may be the wrong way of doing it?

Re: Anti-Virus software for Terminal Services

It is actually Symantec System Center.
So you want to install the Client version onto your workstations and NOT the Server version onto the server. Is that correct?
              1 1 was a racehorse.
              2 2 was 1 2.
              1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
              2 2 1 1 2

See, this is where you must understand that I'm lost when it comes to these things. I am installing the standard Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition, the one where it asks if you want to install it as Client or Server, and as Managed or Unmanaged, and I'm selecting Client Unmanaged. That's probably the first place where I'm going wrong. If someone can direct me which version of Symantec I should install, and how I should configure it, I would appreciate it.
