  • TS Clients getting Disconnected

I have a 2000 server that is my TS server, I am getting a problem where 10 Remote clients are getting disconnected all the time (they are at the same remote site), once this happens they can connect back in immediatly, (which means the net is not dropping out at either end).
I have specified on the RDP connector not to have any time out settings at all and for this to overide all other settings, this was done in teh TS config, but it still happens.
Last night I did some testing, I loged into this server vian the standard RDP, then connected VNC then logged into another server at the same site and RDP'd into it internally.

It Disconnected on me atleast 5 times in a 2 hour period BUT VNC did not disconnect nor did the internal RDP from the other server.

I do have a VPN between the sites, I have not checked but I have been told 2 users use this vpn to RDP over to the server and they have dop outs to, but i cant confirm that.

Can anyone help me out hgere and what is a method of fault finding this, cheers all.

    Re: TS Clients getting Disconnected

    1. Please use RDP 5.2:

    2. You may need to use sniffer to reconize network problems.

    3. Issues for re-create disconnected session was resloved in Windwows 2003 SP1 - so the right answer is to move to Windows 2003 SP1 (Clean install).

      Re: TS Clients getting Disconnected

Cheers i have since installed the 2003 RPD client on my machine, and i now cannot connect to the RDP server, I get a licensing error.
I am assuming that the newer version can give more errors then the old one, also the License server on the 2k server is not showing up client machines in the existing windows 2000 license section, and non of the 5 avalible lisences have been used....strange.

        Please review:

You may need to re-activate the licenses (backup the server first) and check if this error occur again.

          Re: TS Clients getting Disconnected

the License server has been installed from scratch and now should be working.
I can now logon no worries, but STILL get dropped off at anytime.
When it happens the TS session does stop responding for about 10 seconds and then drops, as I said I have a new internet connection dedicated to this, and I am the only one using it, until i get this sorted.

Do you know of anyway to trace the drops or to log or fault find, I can ping the internet connection non stop and the drop outs occur with no dropped ping packets.

it seems to be when the network/server is busy it drops people, like if I log in more then a few people at about the same time.

this has me really stumped, wish they had have gone server 2003 :\

            Re: TS Clients getting Disconnected

Ok this is where i am at, I have been doing some testing with 2 seperate internet connections, plugged into the same switch, on both internet connections i have drop outs to the TS server (win2k) and no drop outs to the W2k3 server both connected at the same time, when i do a file copy to the main server over rdp it works fine but then the other server gets much worse I have used a program called activexperts, I have been monitoring the RDP server avaliblitly through both internet connections to the TS server, this continually cant connect while I am uploading to the normal server, if i stop the uploading and leave it they all respond, if I then try to connect to the TS server on either internet connectioon they stop responding again and my connection via RDP to the TS server drops out.
I can do all of these things to the w2k3 server and have no problems what so ever.

The two servers are identicle bar the different OS, both gigabit connected to a linksys 48 port gigabit switch.

the 2000 server seems to be losing RDP clients that come in on either net connections, but a local RDP from the 2k3 server to the 2k server does not drop out (but it has a lot more bandwidth)

            any ideas people
