    1. Upgrade to Win 2003 Ent.
    2. Install Citrix or Cockpit.

The basic TS under Win 2000 doesnt support more 256 colors.

So then these settings in the TS client are useless?

Seems to let me change resolution and color depth in XP / 2003. (I don't have 2000 TS handy to test it)

You can use Win XP/2003 as target for high resolution and high screen colors terminal.
However, if your target are Win 2000, there no way to overcome the limitation without moving to
Win 2003 add Citrix/Cocpit to the server.

Is there absolutely no way around this?

In Win2003 the Terminal Services Group Policy snap-in has a setting called LimitColorDepth which creates a registry setting in keys under:

          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Terminal Server

If this key were added to Win2k server, would the RDP client not recognize it and allow more than 256 colors?

          Thanks for the help.

Changing operating system without proper support from MS can create more damage then help.
Also, as I know, RDP 5.0 protocol (That came with Windows 2000) doesnt support more then 256 colors.
Using higher level on color require RDP 5.1/5.2 or using ICA (Citrix connections).
