  • Two Terminal Servers

Here is the situation. We currently have a terminal server that is a virtual machine running win 2003 Server 32bit for an old application that won't run on Win 2008 server. We want to add the new application but don't want the resources limited by the 32bit server so we would like to run one terminal server with server 2003 32bit and one terminal server with server 2008 64 bit on different machines of coarse, but on the same network. My questions are:

    1. Can I run two terminal servers on the network, one with server 2003 32bit and one with server 2008 64bit.

    2. Are there any licensing issues that I am going to have to deal with as far as the licensing server handling the two servers with different OS's.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    1) Yes
    2) IIRC you need different CALs, but can issue both from the same licensing server (which should be 2008 )

      Thank You Ossian

      IIRC?

I thought Windows 2008 CALs were backwards compatible?

I thought Windows 2008 CALs were backwards compatible? - Yes
But if you have 30 users CAL on the Windows 2003 and you like to use 20 users on the Windows 2008 T2, the why to buy 50 CALs and not 20?
