  • Client Drive Redirection won't work

    Background:

    Brand new Windows Server 2008 R2 machine. No GPO set to disallow drive redirection. RDP-Tcp properties not set to disable Drive redirection.

    When logging in to the server using mstsc and choosing the drive I want redirected, it works beautifully.

    However, when I run a remoteapp, client drive redirection does not work. I even put into the RemoteApp RDP file:

    redirectdrives:i:1
    drivestoredirect:s:W:;C:;
    (to redirect the W drive and the C drive although even with just W: or C: it didn't work)

    I set a GPO to specifically enable drive redirection and it still won't work.

    Again, when logging in using mstsc and choosing to redirect the drive it works but for some reason with RemoteApp RDP file it does not work.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks so much.

    Please review the RemoteApp settings (in the right side of the screen).
    It control which settings would be added to the RemoteApp icon that you use.
    bdw.. please try:
    drivestoredirect:s:* to drivestoredirect:s:C:;

      Under the tab "Common RDP Settings", Disk Drives is checked off.

      I found (just a few hours ago) a post from a Microsoft moderator on Technet that SPECIFIC drive redirection is not supported in RemoteApp. So I need to leave the string as:

      drivestoredirect:s:*

      and not change it to:

      drivestoredirect:s:C:;

      because that last setting is only for regular RDP files and is not supported in RemoteApp files. when I leave it as *, all drives are redirected. I'm not particularly happy about that but it seems there is nothing to be done.

        Hi,

        Could you please direct me to the technet post you found saying specific drive redirection is not supported in remote app?

        I am having a similar problem in this thread

        http://forums.petri.com/showthread.php?t=59489

        Could this be the cause of my issue also?

        Thanks

          I searched for the technet article and could not find it. It's not a big deal that specific drive redirection is not supported in RemoteApp, because you would just have ALL of their drives redirected. I wrote a script for my own program that maps a network drive on the terminal server to their local drive, and it waits for the drive maps to be complete and let's the user know once it's been done. By me it's usually not more than 3 seconds until the drives are mapped but I imagine if they have 20 drives it can take some time. I can share that script with you if you'd like. I posted it on the experts exchange post as well.
