  • Suddenly, no longer can connect to RDP (RDA)

    I have a Server 2003 Ent SP2 64bit that I've been connecting to for months using what I think is properly called Remote Desktop Administration (NOT Terminal Services). Suddenly, it stopped working and when I try to rdp into the server (from a LAN computer) it says "This computer can't connect to the remote computer". I have many times attempted to turn off and back on Remote Administration from My Computer > Properties > Remote but to no avail. I haven't even the slightest idea where to start looking for why this could be happening. The only thing which I can think of happened the same day is another server on our network (this one is the SQL server) started acting up and we rebooted both servers. But other than that nothing changed. Can anyone give me some insight as to how to diagnose this issue?

      I've confirmed using qwinsta and netstat that the RDP-tcp connection is not even listening for some reason. I haven't gotten a chance to reboot the server since this is a 24 hour production environment. I just deleted the RDP-tcp connection and recreated it and I am rebooting the server now (who cares about the users, right?) and hopefully that will work. I will keep you posted. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

        So I recreated the RDP connection, rebooted, and voila! I guess a note to users who may find this thread in the future: It's really not a big deal to delete and recreate the RDP-tcp connection and it can potentially solve your issues.
