  • RDP from RWW in SBS2008 too slow

    Hello and thanks for reading,

We have two remote users that are connecting to their corresponding computers in the main office. They connect to the SBS 2008 RWW, and then go to their computers. Once they are connected everything works well, they can work remotely, work with the MS Office suite, etc. The problem comes when they want to transfer something from the remote machine to their laptop computera or viceversa.

In the office we have a 2mbps/2mbps connection, and they use ADSL (10mbps/1mbps).

When they connect they select the share lodal drives option, to be able to transfer files. After the login, when they select the local drive in the remote computer (XP SP3) it takes one minute to browse their local drive, and another minute or so to browse the file and perform the copy/paste command... and after that, the transfer itself works well.

What can be causing this extreme lag?, will Teamviewer, Logmein, VNC, or any other remote software, work better thank RDP over RWW?

    Thanks,

    Jud

    Hi,

The main issue is the mapping drive.
Please try to work without the mapping drive and update us.

Also, can you provide more information on the system antivirus?

      Thank you very much Yuval14.

The remote computers where they connect are using the free Microsoft Essentials, I don't know about their computers, I'll ask.

I know they are using a wifi Internet access, I don't know if this can affect.

I'm thinking on buy a new DSL acess in the remote office and make a VPN between the two firewalls, do you think this can enhance the speed of the file transfer?. I don't know if it is possible to have two internet connections at the same time, the wifi for browsing, ect. and the new DSL access only for RDP and data transfer?

Thank you very much and best regards,

      Santi

        Hi,

You may need 8-10 KB download/upload per RDP session.
Also, please try to disable the chimney settings:

          Thanks,

The remote desktops work well, the problem comes when they need to transfer files between the host and the remote computer, then it becomes unusable

I'll try to disable the chimney settings and see if it helps.
