  • TS2008 default printer setting

We have two types of remote users.

    1. Located within our offices who RDP but have no locally configured Printer.
    2. Located external to our office but have a locally configured Printer.

The issues came about when office based users reported they could not save their session default printer (it saved for the session and then reverted back to XPS upon next connection).

This was resolved by changing the Server TS config to disable 'Default to main Client Printer'.

This has caused another issue for non office based (external) users who have a local printer, now when they login they cannot set their default printer to the redirected default printer. Every time you change the session default to the redirected, on next login it reverts to the XPS.

If I try this logging in as administrator, the session saved default is fine next time

When testing this on our old TS2003 server, the functionality is fine. Both TS 2003/2008 connections can have their session default printer saved for future sessions.

We dont have the GPO TS Printer redirection configured so I'm looking for a solution, if possible.

    Hi,

Did you tried to setup a GPO with security filtering for each users group?
You can also use a logon script to control users printers

No because both are part of the TS groups and also members of other common groups

That could become messy couldn't it, we have 50 odd remote users.

As in the Print Managment snap-in. Does this still work ok in a session login?

Also, if I assign to GPO, where is the setting to allocate a particular printer to a group only?
