  • 2008 Licenses

    Hi all,

Can someone in simple terms answer me this question?

Do clients running win xp 2k vista and win 7 needs a separate license to access a 2008 terminal server?

From what I have read so far I assume they do? That's why we have been buying the user cals for 2008.

    Many Thanks!

To access a TS from the LAN you will need two CALs
A server 2008 CAL to log on to the domain
A TS CAL to actually use the Terminal Server

      Thank you!

So we do need to purchase a TS cal to access the server. Is this the same case in windows 2000 Server and TS?

      Thanks!

IIRC Windows 2000 (but NOT 2003) terminal server used the same CALs as the domain (or maybe the 2000Pro OS included a "free" Windows 2000 Server TS CAL)

          Thank you!

That makes perfect sense as we only have 2000 Domain controllers and no 2003 ones, 2008 server is the first new DC we have had.

          Cheers,
