  • Citrix Metaframe Published App Question

Another company set this up and I'm just learning as I go..

    SO...

    I have 3 Servers on my Farm (Cit1, Cit2, Cit3).
Cit1 is my License Server / Metaframe Server

If I create a Published App (Terminal Desktop) thats uses the entire farm it will place people on the servers correctly (IE: User 1 = Cit1, User 2 = Cit2, etc) and everything works fine.

If I remove the 1st Server (Cit1) it comes up to the login prompt and will not allow anyone to log in. I noticed the login screen will still show "Cit1" as the log in server (Even though it is supposed to not connect to #1, I verified the users are in the Remote Desktop Users" group and permissions tab on the ica connections).

    It gives the error: ----
"To log on to this remote computer, you must have Terminal Server User Access permissions on this computer. By Default, members of the Remote Desktop Users group have these permissions. If you are not a membet of the Remote Desktop Users group or another group that has these permissions, or if the Remote Desktop User group does not have these permissions, you must be granted these permissions manually"
    ---

The Odd part is any user Internal Domain Computer connecting to the Metaframe server works fine (IE: http://Cit1), but external users fail (IE: http://citrix.domain.com). (which tells me it is probably a firewall issue)

    My Question:
Should I assign a different IP for each Citrix Server and fix the /altaddr to reflect the outside IP? or is this something more basic I am missing somewhere?

It makes sense to remove the 1st server from the loop if you are connecting to server #2, but why would it work on apps published on the 1st server (and place the user on #2 with full functionality)?

    Thanks,
    Hobie

Re: Citrix Metaframe Published App Question

      Update --
      ------------
      ICA Client : 11.2 (Windows)
Server OS : Windows Server 2003 R2 (All updates)
Citrix Vers : MetaFrame Presentation 4.0 (With hotfix 6)

I cannot upgrade at this time.. I run a medical system that requires this version..
      --------------------------
      Steps I have taken:
I broke down and gave each machine an altaddr a static IP on the outside.
I removed Cit1 from all applications.
I setup my firewall to the following:
port 80 : forwards to Cit1 (WebServer for Metaframe)
      port 1494 / 2598 : IP1 forwards to Cit2
      port 1494 / 2598 : IP2 forwards to Cit3

This works IF I have only 1 server in the application farm.
IE: Desktop 1 points to Cit2 and works great, Desktop 2 points to Cit3 and works great!

If I add more than 1 Cit server to any app is fails immediately with the "To log.....blahblah".

Thanks for any help on this!

Yuval - I read the atricles you posted, I think everything is setup right (but obviously not).

This article only relates to x64 windows. I found it also.

Should I open any other ports on the router? Maybe port 80?

Or is it possible the servers are not talking with each other?

I did clone these servers in a VMWare enviroment and readded to the domain. I know Xenerver requires more steps (SID), but I'm not aware if VMWare requies anything else.

Re: Citrix Metaframe Published App Question

            I should also note this:
Internally multiple servers cause no errors!

As soon as I login externally it all goes to hell.

Internally = direct to Cit server (http://cit1)
Externally = via the web server (http://somename.com)

I have multiple internet connection at my office and go out one of the internet ports to route back to the Cit for testing..

Re: Citrix Metaframe Published App Question

              Please try a small test:

              1. Shutdown one ot the servers.
              2. Try using the new server after reboot.

If this deosnt work, please try to add the users to local admin group (for test)
