  • Doubt about which driver to install on TS with 64bits.

I have a TS with 2003 64Bits in which I've installed only the 64bits drivers for some of the printers that are being used on remote clients. I have XP and Vista 32 bits remotely. My doubt is to know if must I install the 32 bits version of these OS also on the TS (I've read and googled about printing on Terminal Services but I was unable to get to a conclusion).

The reason for this thread is that I have remote HP printers with Vista that do a reboot of the TS when they print.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Please dont install any non certificate drivers on the TS.
You can use fallback option in the GPO and map build in drivers name to another name.

Also, I didnt found any reason to install Windows 32 drivers on Windows X64 (I also can recommanded you to use only Microsoft build in drivers).

      H, yuval14.

Thanks for your reply. I'm currently using the last drivers from HP both in TS and on remote Pc's.

I'm going to connect one of these printers to a XP 32bits PC and see if does the same.

The problem I have in this situation is that these are new printers, maybe I will try to use HP DeskJet 930 if XP 32 bits works as it should.

Here's what I would do: Since the server is W2K8 I would enable the TS Easy Print Driver GPO setting. Here's some more info:

          Hello, joeqwerty.

          The SO is 2003 64Bits.

          Thanks.

Sorry, missed that it was 2003. In that case, you can use the Fallback Printer Driver GPO setting to have the server use a default PCL or PS driver for client printers that the server doesn't have a driver for.

If you do install the driver on the server you should install the 64 bit driver as the TS will actually render the print job and send it to the client printer. There shouldn't be any need to install 32 bit drivers on the server.

              Hello, joeqwerty.

Thanks for your reply. It is also my idea but this is a strange to which I don't have a solution yet.
