  • Can't connect to TS but can connect to other servers and pc

    Hi,

I am facing a very weird problem here. Here's my environment:
    1. Server name: W2K3 | MYDC (qcs.local) | AD (192.167.1.2)
    2. Server name: W2K3 | MYPrintServer | Print Server (192.167.1.3)
    3. Server name: W2K3 | MYIIS | IIS (192.167.1.4)
    4. Server name: W2K3 | MYFileServer | File & Application Server (192.167.1.5)
    5. Server name: W2K8 | MYTS | Terminal Server (192.168.1.6)
    6. about 100 PCs and 70 users

I have a mobile laptop (Win XP Pro SP3) user (sales person), he can use RDC to connect to any other servers or PCs but not to TS via office LAN nor VPN; and I can use his account to connect to the TS from my PC. He used to be fine but have no idea why suddenly he couldn't connect to TS. Could it be the Windows update causing this problem?

I am looking forward to your help...

Try this on the affected workstation (from Microsoft):
    1. Click Start, click Run, type Regedit.exe, and then click OK.
    2. Locate the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing\ Store\
    3. Delete the TS CAL key, probably LICENSE001.

NOTE: Typically, LICENSE000 is the license for the operating system and LICENSE001 is the TS CAL. To verify this information, check to see whether the ProductID value is present; this value indicates the license for the operating system.
    4. When the client attempts to reconnect to the Terminal server, it will request a new TS CAL.
If deleting the LICENSE000 or LICENSE00x key to troubleshoot connection failures does not let a client connect to a Terminal server, back up the whole MSLICENSING key, and then delete the whole key. Try to connect to a Terminal server. This causes the generation of a new hardware ID. This enables the client to request a new license, and to successfully connect. The MSLICENSING key and all subkeys are recreated.

Thanks for the info. I will try once the sales person gets back to office.

        Hi Joe,

The machine was actually running on Windows XP Pro SP2. What i did was install SP3 and the TS worked again. It's an odd issue...
