    Hi Guys,

I need to understand something and I'd like your help, please.

We have an application ( Spira v4.8 ) running into our Citrix PS 4.0 environment on Windows 2003.
When printing using 'Autodetect Printers' policy we have no problems but when printing using different policies that only maps certain printers to Citrix session the session hangs and printing doesn't work. You get to the point where you can choose a printer, click print, you get a small window saying 'printing' and the session hangs and nothing comes out.
    My environment:
    -Win 2003 Standard
    -PS 4.0
-Print server on Win 2003 standard
    -TS profiles

No printing problems at all or with other applications running in Citrix. Talked to Spira tech guys and they blame it on my Citrix or network.

Any idees will be greatly appreciate it!

    Thank you,

    1. Please try to use the regular Microsoft TS - Is it work?

    2. Did you mean to this product:

      Hello Florin,

What do you mean by "Auto detected printers"? do you mean Auto created client printers?

You need to be more specific regarding the Citrix policies that work and doesn't work. please send back screen shoots of the relevant Citrix policies.

One more question, what kind of Print Drivers are you using? do you use the Citrix Universal driver or native drivers?

I have seen issues where certain drivers didn't work for specific applications.

      Thanks,
      Smart-X

        Thank you for your input!

        For yuval14:
        -Yes, that is the application.
        -TS is not an option

        For Smart-X:
-Yes, I'm talking about 'auto create' printers
The policy is setup as follow:
        1. Auto create printers policy
        -Auto-Creation - "Auto-create all client printers"
-Native printer driver auto-install - "Do not automatically install driver"
-Universal driver - "Use universal driver only if requested driver is unavailable"
This one works with no problems.

        2. Other printer policies:
-Native printer driver auto-install - "Do not automatically install driver"
-Universal driver - "Use universal driver only if requested driver is unavailable"
-Session printers - Certain printers for certain policies and locations.
When using any of these ones it doesn't print and user session hangs untill killed in Citrix.

All my printers are HP, all supported in Citrix, all drivers PCL5.
As I mention before, I did/do not have any other issues printing, except this application, recently installed.

        Regards,

          Hi,

Please use a regular TS connection for test and provide us the results.

          Thanx

Re: Printing issues - Citrix PPS 4.0

This is the first message I get when try printing using a regular TS connection:

Print error: An error occur during printing. (0x80070006)

I click OK and get another one:

A runtime error has occured. Do you wish to debug?
            Line: 27
            Error: the handle is invalid.

            Thank you,

Re: Printing issues - Citrix PPS 4.0

Error regarding my last post has been dealt with. I had to change the default printer from the session ones to "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer".
I can print now using a regular TS connection.
I still cannot print through Citrix Policies except "Auto-create".

                Hello Florin,

If I understand your eariler post, you are only having issues with Citrix Session Printers, the Citrix auto-created printers work fine.

Citrix Session printers are basically just network printers connections. the Citrix policies are just an easy way to map certain network printers to users based on group membership, client IP address or other rules...

If the network printer works well via RDP is should work just fine via ICA since it's the same printer object, driver and security.

Can you please make sure that in both cases (RDP and ICA) you print from the application to the same network (or Citrix session) printer?

                Thanks,
                Smart-X

                  Hi Smart-x,

In both cases (RDP and ICA) I printed to same network printers and also different ones.
The 'auto-create' policy also mapps network printers, we don't have local printers.

                  Thanks,

                    Hello Florin,

Still not sure about your printer configuration. can you please send 2 screen shots:
                    1. A screen shot of the printers folder when you connect via ICA, please mark the problematic printer
                    2. A screen shot of the printers folder when you connect via RDP, please mark the printer that you are able to print too.
One more thing you can do, run a Process Monitor (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896645.aspx) log once when you are able to print and once when you can't print. it might show you the cause of your issue (security, driver, printer name...)

                    Thanks,
                    Smart-X

Re: Printing issues - Citrix PPS 4.0

                      Sorry for not replaying earlier...

We found a work around...It seems that if we publish any of the Citrix boxes desktop (it doesn't have to be the ones where the appication is installed) and the user logs in once after he opens the appication again he can print.
We checked users TS profiles before and after and the only difference is (after he logs in to the desktop) a folder called "Identities" gets created under "Application Data". Any ideas?

PS: The application developers admited that they didn't build the application for Citrix environment nor they did any testing in Citrix.

So you can do a small trick. Enable a nice logon script that check if the "Identities" exits, if not it will create it...
