  • Internet Explorer 7 won't remember proxy username/password on 2003 TS

    Hi Everyone,

We're having a problem with IE7 on our 2003 TS in that is won't remember proxy username and password when the "Remember my password" box is ticked.

Works fine on my XP workstation, just not on the TS.

TS running SP2, Webmarshal is the proxy.

Authentication works fine, it just won't remember the setting. As a result users have to enter it each time they open a browser window, which is not the preferred behaviour. Well, at least not around here.

Has anyone else come across this?

    cheers,

    Luke

Are the profiles been deleted after a logoff?
    Are the profiles mandatory?

Anyhow, It's a usersetting so somehow it cannot be written the the HCKU.
However you can use a GPO to apply the settings.

      Thanks Marcel,

The profiles are not deleted after a logoff, and they are mandatory.

I've had a look, but can't find any GPO settings that apply specifically to what I'm trying to achieve. There are plenty of options for configuring proxy settings, but nothing for remembering the username/password a user enters.

        Oh I'm sorry.
I think I've misread your question

So the profiles are mandatory? What if the profile isn't mandatory?
However what is the use of authentication against a proxy server as you want to save the password?

          No worries.

I misunderstood the meaing of 'mandatory' we use ZenWorks to manage profiles, not AD so the terminology is a bit different. The profiles are not mandatory.

The proxy is used for content filtering and reporting, we require the user to authenticate so their access can be audited if necessary. It is used mainly to restrict access to sites. I can understand the idea of saving passwords seems contrary to requiring a user to authenticate, however it's not a concern for us.

I'm running up a fresh 2003 VM at the moment, so I can test without Zen to see if that's causing any issues.

            Hi,

            1. Why not to use a proxy device that provides a silent authentication to users?

            2. Did you review:

              Webmarshal can integrate with ISA.

              http://www.marshal.com/KB/Article.aspx?id=11742
When WebMarshal is installed on the same server as Microsoft's Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004, it can be installed either as a Web Filter plugin to ISA Server (WebMarshal 3.x, and 6.1 and above), or using its own proxy server, chained to ISA Server (all versions).
ISA can authenticate based on AD credentials.
